Voornemens
De maand januari loopt ten einde. Mijn voornemens voor dit jaar zijn om een kinderboek te schrijven en uit te geven. Ik zal me daarop meer moeten richten om het te verwezenlijken. Ik moet de lijnen nog uitzetten voor het verhaal.
Afgelopen jaar heb ik me bezig gehouden met het uitgeversvak. Ik heb het boek “Little Mawu – The Story Of My Life“ uitgebracht, geschreven door de Afrikaanse dichter, blogger en schrijver Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath. Het boek is gelanceerd op 7 oktober ter gelegenheid van de Ghanese Erfgoeddagen 7/8 oktober in Den Haag. De auteur kon er zelf niet bijzijn, dus heb ik de presentatie verzorgd en de dichter Charlton Marcos heeft op bijzondere wijze een paar gedichten uit het boek voorgedragen. De Ghanese auteur kon wel via Skype de presentatie volgen. Inmiddels heeft hij de royalty ontvangen voor zijn boek.
Het opzetten van verschillende petten als schrijfster, in mindere mate als vertaalster, redactrice, uitgeefster en marketeer valt absoluut niet mee. Voor dit jaar ligt mijn focus meer op het schrijven van een kinderboek en het goed neerzetten in de internationale markt van het boek Little Mawu – The Story Of My Life.
Jayline, het dochtertje van mijn nicht op Aruba had een boekpresentatie op school. Ze is zes jaar en haar moeder raadde haar aan te vertellen over mijn eerste boek “Ollie, Assie en Pelie – een modern sprookje over vriendschap.” Dit boek is gebaseerd op de bijzondere vriendschap van haar moeder (Olga = Ollie) met haar moeders jeugdvriendin (Astrid = Assie) en de verzamelwoede van haar moeder met pelikanen (= Pelie). Jayline vertelde haar verhaal en was compleet vergeten te vermelden dat haar moeder een hoofdrol speelde in het verhaal. Het vertellen over het boek is haar echter goed afgegaan.
Dit jaar werk en besteed ik dus veel aandacht aan de inspiratie voor het kinderboek om het vorm te geven.

Intention
The month January is reaching its end. My intention for this year is to write and publish a children’s book. I will have to focus to realize it. I still have to outline the story.
Last year my focus was on publishing. I was busy with the publishing of the book “Little Mawu – The Story of My Life” by the African poet, blogger and writer Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath. The book was published in October and launched in The Hague at the occasion of the Ghanaian Heritage Days of 7th and 8th October. The author could not attend the presentation so I did the presentation and the Dutch poet Charlton Marcos recited a few poems from the book in a magnificent way. The Ghanaian author was able to follow the presentation via Skype. In the meantime he has received the royalty for his book.
Putting on several caps as an author, to a lesser degree as a translator, an editor, a publisher and marketer is not easy. This year my focus will be on writing and publishing a children’s book and taking care of the international marketing for the book Little Mawu – The Story of My Life.
Jayline, the daughter of my niece in Aruba had a book presentation for her school this month. She is six years old and her mother advised her to talk about “Ollie, Assie en Pelie – een modern sprookje over vriendschap.” This fairy tale book is based on the close friendship of her mother Olga (= Ollie) with her youth friend Astrid (= Assie) and her collection of Pelicans (= Pelie). Jayline gave her presentation but forgot to mention that her mother was the central figure in the story. However she did fine telling the story.
So this year I will focus on the inspiration I had to write and publish a children’s book.

The book LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life – ISBN 978-90-809729-9-5
Little Mawu is the story of a little boy who grew up in Ghana and Togo. His mother was a Ghanaian and his father was from Togo. He was smart and loved writing poems. His bilingual upbringing and his love for writing made him go in the direction of becoming a journalist, next to being a poet and a blogger.
He faced serious challenges in life but with determination and perseverance he managed to achieve – against all odds at the age of 55+ – his Master of Arts in Development Studies at the International Institute of Social Studies of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam at The Hague in the Netherlands.
At present he is the deputy Director of the Information Services Department of the Ministry of Communications in Accra, Ghana. He is also in charge of the editorial and content management of the Official Portal http://www.ghana.gov.gh of the Government of Ghana.
His book LITTLE MAWU, The Story of My Life is highly recommended for college and university students and anyone who wants to know how to persevere in tough situations.

Het boek LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life – ISBN 978-90-809729-9-5
Little Mawu is het verhaal van een jongetje dat opgroeide in Ghana en Togo. Zijn moeder kwam uit Ghana en zijn vader uit Togo. Hij was slim en hij hield van het schrijven van gedichten. Zij tweetalige opvoeding en zijn liefde voor het schrijven wezen hem in de richting van het journalistieke vak, daarnaast was hij een dichter en blogger.
Hij werd geconfronteerd met ernstige uitdagingen in het leven, maar met vastberadenheid en doorzettingsvermogen wist hij – tegen alle verwachtingen in op de leeftijd van 55+ – zijn Master of Arts te halen aan het International Institute of Social Studies of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, gevestigd in Den Haag.
Op dit moment is hij onderdirecteur van de Informatiedienstafdeling van het Ministerie van Communicaties te Accra in Ghana. Hij is tevens belast met het Regeringsofficiële portaal http://www.ghana.gov.org in Ghana.
Zijn boek LITTLE MAWU, The Story of My Life wordt ten zeerste aanbevolen aan studenten aan de hoge scholen en universiteiten en ieder ander die wenst te weten hoe in moeilijke omstandigheden het hoofd boven water te houden.
Op 7 oktober jl. was het boek gelanceerd tijdens de Ghanese Erfgoeddagen in Den Haag en het is nu ook beschikbaar in de Google Play Store door de app te downloaden op http://bit.do/LittleMawuAndroid. Apps voor het downloaden bij Amazon.com en iTunes volgen binnenkort.

LITTLE MAWU” BOOK LAUNCHED IN THE HAGUE ON 7th OCTOBER 2016
The long-awaited sensational book LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life has been officially launched at The Hague, the Netherlands.
The simple but expressive event took place in the Library Room of Vliethage in The Hague, on Friday, 7 October 2016 between 19.00 – 21.00 hours.
The Book Launch was strategically fixed to coincide with GHANAIAN HERITAGE DAYS of a Netherlands-based Asanteman Club Den Haag, held from 7 – 8 October this year.
LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life is an autobiography of Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath, a bilingual Ghanaian journalist, author, poet and blogger. It was published in the Netherlands by MI Publishing. Even though the author could not be present physically, technology made it possible for him to participate in the programme via Skype. And the experience was fantastic!
The Publisher of the book, Ms. Joyce Herry, delivered the keynote address by giving a chronological account of the genesis of the book. There had been several marathon Skype sessions between herself as editor and Publisher in Europe, and the author in Africa. She described the author as a “mystery man” whom she first met in November 2014. It was at her friends, Sandra and Cor James’s residence in The Hague that year when she was invited to partake in Sandra’s natal day party.
She told the audience that the author Mr. M.K. Abissath came to the Netherlands in 2013 – 2014 academic years to pursue a Master of Arts programme in Development Studies at the renowned International Institute of Social Studies popularly known as ISS of Erasmus University Rotterdam, with campus located in The Hague.
According to Ms. Herry, while enjoying herself at Sandra’s birth day party, on that memorable day, Mr. Abissath whose first name Mawutodzi was nicknamed “Mawu” by the ISS community, approached her and asked her name: “I am Joyce,” she replied. Then he probed: “So what do you do?” “I am an author and independent publisher,” she explained.
Ms. Herry recalled that, when she told the inquisitive man that she was an author, the word “author” caught his attention and he quickly retorted: “I have a poem about Joyce, composed as far back as 1987 and I have a lot more poems that need publishing.” Then he said to her: “I will send you my poems to look at,” he concluded enthusiastically.
The Publisher told the gathering that, at the time of meeting Mawu, she herself was busy struggling with the publication of her own book on SLAVERY – A phenomenon of All Times. Thus, she did not make any promise either or not to publish Mr. Abissath’s supposedly collection of poems.
However, when Mawu successfully graduated and received his MA Degree in December 2014, Sandra and Cor organised a special farewell party in his honour at their own residence. Then on 14 December 2014, a day before his departure from Europe to Africa, Sandra defied the chilly winter weather, took a tram all the way from their suburb to visit Mawu at his student’s hostel in The Hague. She went there specifically to inform him that she had arranged with a friend of hers to pick him up with her car to drive him the following day straight from The Hague to the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to see him off to Ghana.
Mawu was overwhelmed by Sandra’s kind gesture and generosity. Already, he started calling Sandra “Queen Sandra” the first day Sandra dressed like an African queen to receive Mawu in their residence. Thus, through conversation, they were sharing ideas as what Mawu would like to do after his retirement in the civil service in Ghana. Mawu then briefly told Queen Sandra about his humble beginning in villages in Ghana and Togo both countries in West Africa because his mother was a Ghanaian and father a Togolese.
Then Mawu mentioned in passing how he used to be a very tiny boy but somewhat brilliant as a village school boy who happened to be the only candidate to have successfully passed a very tough common entrance examination in 1972 in his father’s village in Togo that year. Unfortunately for him, however, he could not go to secondary school due to financial challenges of his parents. Queen Sandra was dumbfounded by the mysterious academic life story of Mawu. She motivated him to write a book about his unpredictable life, which would be of great interest to European readers. It was Sandra who even suggested the operational title of “LITTLE MAWU”. As the adage goes, the rest is history… One must read the book to appreciate the power of determination and perseverance in life.
Earlier, the Board Chairman of the Asanteman Club Den Haag, Chief Kwakoe Boatong made a brief inspiring speech and gave a historical background to the Club, and how they have been supporting all Ghanaian residents in the Netherlands as part of their activities.
The curator of the historical museum, who was also present, did a presentation about the heritage of The Hague Migrants. But one person who stole the show at the book launch was Mr. Charlton Marcos. He is a veteran poet who gave a fantastic rendition of some selected poems extracted from the book LITTLE MAWU. The poems were:
BE YOURSELF, BE USEFUL and NETHERLANDS – LAND OF LEARNERS.
Mawu himself recited three poems via the Skype for the listening pleasure of the gathering. One poem that was not in the book entitled: BELOVED JOYCE was recited and then he recited FLYING AMONG THE SCOLARS and the very last poem published in the book: GHANA – CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE. He told his distance audience what inspired him to compose his poems. It was a soul stirring experience indeed!

Kort verslag van de boeklancering LITTLE MAWU – The Story Of My Life
De officiële lancering vond plaats in de bibliotheekzaal van de accommodatie Vliethage, Rijswijkseweg 252, Den Haag op 7 oktober 2016 tussen 19.00 en 21.00 uur.
Het evenement viel samen met de Ghanese Erfgoeddagen van 7 en 8 oktober jl.georganiseerd door de Asanteman Club Den Haag.
LITTLE MAWU – The Story Of My Life is de autobiografie van de Ghanese journalist, dichter en blogger Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath. Het boek werd gepubliceerd door MI Publishing in Nederland.
Ofschoon de auteur niet fysiek aanwezig was bij zijn boeklancering werd het toch mogelijk gemaakt met hem te communiceren via Skype.De uitgever, Joyce Herry, verzorgde de boeklezing en de auteur kon alles via Skype volgen. De uitgever legde haarfijn uit aan het publiek hoe het boek is ontstaan en hoe ze hem ontmoet had in Den Haag bij haar vrienden Sandra en Cornelius James in november 2014. De auteur had toevallig het gedicht “Beloved Joyce” over de naam van de uitgever geschreven in 1987. De uitgever was vereerd dat hij haar een kopie wilde sturen van zijn gedicht. Na het uitwisselen van emails ontving de uitgever niet alleen het gedicht, maar zijn gehele gedichten oeuvre. De auteur kon tijdens het evenement 3 gedichten uit zijn boek voordragen i.e.: Beloved Joyce, Flying among the scholars en Ghana – Center of the Universe. Als verrassing voor de auteur en het publiek had de uitgever de Groningse dichter, Charlton Marcos, uitgenodigd om 3 gedichten uit het boek voor te dragen: Be Yourself, Be Useful en Netherlands – Land of Learners. Charlton is een bekende Curaçaose dichter, die op diverse podia in Nederland optreedt. Iedereen was onder de indruk van zijn kunst in het voordragen. De eerste gedichtenbundel van Charlton, “Fo’i Fondo Di Mi Poron”, is ook door de uitgever uitgegeven in 2008. Het was niet de bedoeling van de uitgever het hele gedichten oeuvre van de auteur uit te geven omdat ze zelf druk bezig was met haar eigen boek “SLAVERY – A Phenomenon Of All Times” dat eind 2015 is uitgegeven.
Gastvrouw Sandra leerde Mawu beter kennen. Mawu, zoals hij door zijn mede-studenten werd “gedoopt” bij het International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) heeft zijn academische graad Master of Arts in “Development Studies” gehaald in Den Haag in december 2014.
Sandra hoorde zijn levensverhaal op de voorlaatste dag (14 december 2014) van zijn vertrek uit Nederland toen ze hem opzocht om hem te laten weten dat ze zijn reis naar Schiphol voor hem had geregeld. Ze spoorde hem aan om zijn verhaal op te schrijven en zij zou er voor zorgen dat het gepubliceerd werd.
Hij begon gelijk na terugkeer in Ghana aan zijn levenswerk. Na een maand stuurde hij zijn manuscript naar Sandra die het aan de uitgever gaf om uit te geven.
Er moest nog een lange weg afgelegd worden voordat het product LITTLE MAWU – The Story Of My Life rijp was voor productie.
De uitgever was blij en dankbaar dat het boek gelanceerd kon worden in de bibliotheekzaal van het gebouw Vliethage te Den Haag, dè plek waar de Haagse Ghanezen zich ontmoeten.
De curator van het Haags Historisch Museum, mevrouw Kiran Sukul, was tevens aanwezig en heeft een lezing gehouden over het erfgoed van de Haagse migranten.
Zij bood de uitgever de mogelijkheid aan om ook in het Haags Historisch Museum een lezing te geven over het boek LITTLE MAWU – The Story of My Life.

Title: “LITTLE MAWU The Story of my Life”. The author is a creative writer, blogger and poet. He is a bilingual journalist because his father hails from the French speaking country Togo and his mother from the Anglophone country Ghana, both countries in West Africa. His name Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath is taller than the diminutive author himself. That is the mystery behind the title of the book. His formal education could not travel beyond primary school in French. He could not go to college not because he was block-headed; ironically, he was the only candidate out of nine presented by his village school to have successfully passed the toughest common entrance examination that academic year in Togo in 1972. His inability to go to secondary school was due to his parents’ financial circumstance.
The author’s life could be summarised as “where there is a will there is a way, or as the adage goes: when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” He was inspired by the writings of the great Scottish novelist, Sir Walter Scott who once said: “The best part of every man’s education is that which he gives to himself.”
Thus, out of self-motivation and self-education, the author obtained admission into the Ghana Institute of Journalism, first for Diploma in Journalism and later for Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies when the Institute was then affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon. His prolific writings in arts and culture and environmental issues over the years, which he still does, help the authorities to adopt certain policies for development in his country.
Eventually, he was granted scholarship at the age of 50+ to fly to Europe to pursue his Master of Arts Degree in Development Studies in the Netherlands at the outstanding International Institute of Social Studies ISS of Erasmus University Rotterdam at The Hague. Before the airplane touched the tarmac on Netherlands’ soil, the author saw the beautiful and colourful tulip fields. He took out his pen and notebook from his briefcase and then and there composed a poem dedicated to the country entitled Netherlands – Land of Learners (on page 198).
Even the circumstance that led the author to report rather late to ISS, which caused him to miss out on the first term examination was bizarre. On top of that he had to spend almost a whole month in hospital during his studies and yet he was able to successfully complete the course with his 2013-2014 academic year group of graduates. It was a miracle!
Read the book to appreciate the power of perseverance and self-determination in life!

New book coming out soon – LITTLE MAWU – The Story Of My Life
This Summer MI Publishing will be releasing the autobiography of the Ghanaian journalist, blogger and high ranked civil servant, Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath.
The book entitled Little MAWU – The Story Of My Life is an interesting read.
A quote by the famous American non-fiction and fiction author, Stephen King, goes like this: “Everyone has a story and most of it isn’t interesting.”
However the story of LITTLE MAWU is interesting enough that you can be whatever you set your mind on to become in life. As long as you persevere!
You may deal with obstacles, challenges and years of struggle, but eventually, once you have paved the road to success and discover that there are more opportunities lying ahead, it will not cost you that much trouble and pain in the end to get where you want to go.

Nieuw te publiceren boek: LITTLE MAWU – The Story Of My Life
Deze zomer brengt MI Publishing de autobiografie uit van de journalist, auteur, blogger en
top ambtenaar uit Ghana, Mawutodzi Kodzo Abissath.
Een citaat van de beroemde Amerikaanse fictie en non-fictie auteur, Stephen King, luidt:
“Iedereen heeft een verhaal en de meeste verhalen zijn niet interessant.”
Het boek LITTLE MAWU is echter interessant genoeg om te lezen, want je kunt dat zijn wat je wilt worden in het leven. Zolang je doorzet!
Je kunt obstakels tegenkomen, uitdagingen, jarenlange tegenslagen, maar uiteindelijk wanneer je het pad van succes hebt bewandeld en ontdekt dat er meer mogelijkheden in het verschiet liggen, zal het uiteindelijk niet veel moeite en pijn kosten datgene te krijgen waar je opuit bent.

Ship Wreckages in Namibia, Africa
Last week it was mentioned in the news that miners from the Diamond company De Beers discovered a shipwreck in a drained lagoon of Namibia. After the excavation it was determined that it was the Portuguese ship Bon Jesus that went missing in 1533. The ship had a cargo of hundreds of gold coins, pottery and other valuable items. The destination of the ship was India.
The Portuguese government waived their right to the ship and allowed Namibia to keep the lot.
That was not the only ship that had been wrecked on the Namibian shore.
The United Dutch East India Company (VOC)’s ship Vlissingen, built in Zeeland on the VOC-yard in 1732 perished in Namibia in 1747. The ship was on its fifth journey from Rammekens roadstead near the Dutch town Flushing to the Cape of Good Hope carrying amongst others 50,000 Dutch guilders when the ship was lost. The wreck was found in the area of Meob Bay in Namibia in 2001. Dutch archaeologists examined the coins. The coins proved to be VOC copper coins minted in the Dutch town of Middelburg in 1746.

Scheepswrakken in Namibië, Afrika
Vorige week kwam in het nieuws dat mijnwerkers van het Diamand bedrijf De Beers een wrak hebben ontdekt van een schip in een drooggelegde lagune van Namibië. Na de opgraving werd vastgesteld dat het om het Portugese schip Bon Jezus ging die vermist was in 1533.
Het schip had een lading van honderden gouden munten, aardewerk en andere waardevolle spullen aan boord. De bestemming van het schip was India.
De Portugese regering heeft afgezien van hun recht op het schip en liet Namibië de partij houden.
Dat was niet het enige schip dat schipbreuk geleden had op de Namibische kust.
Het schip Vlissingen van de Verenigde Nederlandse Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC), gebouwd in Zeeland op de VOC-werf in 1732 leed schipbreuk in Namibië in 1747.
Het schip was op zijn vijfde reis van de Rammekens rederij in de buurt van Vlissingen met bestemming Kaap de Goede Hoop en had onder andere 50.000 Nederlandse guldens aan boord toen het schip verloren raakte. In 2001 werd rond het gebied van de Meob Baai in Namibië het wrak gevonden. Nederlandse archeologen onderzochten de munten. De munten bleken VOC koperen munten te zijn die geslagen waren in Middelburg in 1746.

The MI Publishing website was hacked and the provider has blocked the site and removed the content. Because MI Publishing couldn’t remove the malware on the website the publisher has decided to close down the site for publications on the internet.
A new website http://www.mi-publishing.biz has been opened where now up-to-date information can be obtained.
All MI Publishing’s published books feature an app for mobile or i-pad devices that can be downloaded as an e-book on several platforms. Prices for download on Google Play Store, Apple i-bookstore and Amazon Appstore have been set very low for a period of time to create the opportunity for customers to get acquainted with the published books of MI Publishing before the normal prices for e-books are reset.
This year MI Publishing will publish LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life by a former journalist from Ghana who is at present a senior civil servant in Ghana. It has not been easy for him growing up as a child, but through self-determination and belief in his own abilities, he has managed to get the best out of himself. At the end of 2014, the publisher met him in The Hague and later she heard his fascinating life story which made her decide to publish his book this summer.

De website van MI Publishing was gekraakt en de provider heeft de site geblokkeerd en opgeheven. Omdat de malware niet kon worden uitgehaald, heeft MI Publishing besloten de website te sluiten voor publicaties op het internet.
Een nieuwe website met een andere existentie http://www.mi-publishing.biz is nu geopend
waar voortaan up-to-date informatie verkregen kan worden.
Alle gepubliceerde boeken van MI Publishing zijn van een app voorzien die met mobiel of
i-pad apparaten als e-boek gedownload kunnen worden. De prijzen voor het downloaden op Google Playstore, Apple i-bookstore en Amazon Appstore zijn erg laag gehouden voor een bepaalde tijd om de mogelijkheid te scheppen, kennis te maken met boeken van MI Publishing voordat de normale prijzen voor de e-boeken worden ingevoerd.
Dit jaar publiceert MI Publishing LITTLE MAWU The Story Of My Life van een ex-journalist uit Ghana die nu een hoge ambtenaar is in Ghana. Als kind heeft hij het niet gemakkelijk gehad, maar door zelfstudie, doorzettingsvermogen en geloven in eigen kunnen heeft hij het beste uit zichzelf weten te halen. Eind 2014 heeft de uitgeefster hem ontmoet in Den Haag en later zijn boeiende levensverhaal gehoord om haar te doen besluiten zijn boek uit te geven deze zomer.
